Since my last post, I have commenced a creative writing course, online through the Sydney Writers’ Centre. Many years ago, I studied journalism at university. I had just about every hint of creativity edited out of me – no adjectives and adverbs, concise sentences, and answering the ‘who, what, where, why, when and how’ of an incident in the first paragraph. A great formula for reporting the facts, but a killer for creativity. Having recently been transported into the capricious heights of liberating self-appreciation and personal worth, I needed to express that freshness creatively, particularly through my writing. I was delighted to find the online creative writing course, and have enjoyed my first tentative steps into this medium. Where it leads, who knows. For now, I plan to use the course to stimulate my creativity and to begin using my writing as an extension of the person I am, the person I am continuing to become. Even if I use this just for me, it will be well worth my time, effort and investment.
