Another New Year has begun – and with it great opportunities to make a fresh start, to review the past twelve months – the good and not so good – and look to the future. One of my highlights at this time of the year is to do just that - reflect on what has gone before, and consider my hopes and dreams for the year ahead.
2009 was a time of change and preparation for me – retiring as a social worker and beginning to develop my love of writing, as well as preparing my autobiography for publishing and the challenge of marketing it. It was an exciting year, but I know there are several areas that I can improve upon.
Rather than make New Year’s resolutions, I prefer to take time out with God and talk with Him about what He has in mind for me to do. This year I do have the exciting task of marketing my book, as well as becoming involved in Prison Fellowship and continuing with my lawn bowls. I am continuing on my weight loss journey and this includes walking for an hour a day at least five times a week.
More than anything, I want to grow in my walk with God and spend more significant time with Him. I am very conscious of my need to draw close to Him, particularly as I embrace the challenge of becoming a published author. I do not take that lightly, but I am excited to know that at last I really am doing what my God has planned for me.
It is so very fitting that at this time of my life, and with the publishing of my book – Peace and Freedom are My Names – that I leave on what I consider to be a pilgrimage to Egypt, Israel and Oberammergau, to walk where Jesus walked and to reflect on God’s goodness to His people throughout history and into the present. That will be in May.
At this time of the year, may you too reflect on God’s goodness, and talk with Him about how you can have a fresh start in life with Him.
